A Unique Hostel
Only Hostel in the city of Puerto Morelos, Q Roo, Mexico
During a road trip to El Salvador, Sophie stopped by Cancun and got amazed by this beach destination that is why she decide to buy the land where is now the hostel, as an investment.
3 years later the dream came true in 2015, Sophie decided to use her Mexican land to build a hostel. Leaving its country, family and friends to start her life and project in Mexico.
The construction of the hostel started in July 2016 without any particular issues and Hostel Humanity finally opened its door in December 2016 for the biggest enjoyment of Sophie.
The secret behind the name’s room
As you already know, the Riviera Maya is fixed by the Mayan culture and one thing to know among many others is that the Mayan calendar had 18 months of 20 days and 1 of 5 days. Sophie, the owner & manager of the hostel decided to dedicate the name of the room to her family members who all live in France, in order to have them a bit closer to her. Thus, the room’s names are the Mayan months according to the date of birth of each member:
UO Ka'an (Eden)
The double room dedicated to her godson Eden whose the name is “Ka’an” in Maya and stands for “sky”
TZEC Utsil (Claudie)
The 4 person’s dormitory with AC is dedicated to her sister Claudie whose the name is “UTSIL” in Maya and stands for “goodness/honesty”
ZIP Naajal Baatel (Jean-Loïc)

KAYAB Copal (Maryse)
The second 8 persons dormitories without AC is dedicated to her mother Maryse whose the Mayan name is “Copal” and stands for a Mayan incense since the Myrrh (which is the meaning of Maryse) does not exist in this region of the world.
KANKIN Kantunil (Ambre)

ZAC Bey U Yumile (Mickael)
